Rain pattered rhythmically against the window, creating a serene backdrop that seemed to wrap around the three friends. Inside the coffee shop, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingled harmoniously with the scent of damp earth wafting in from outside. L stirred her cup absentmindedly, her gaze drifting towards the rain-soaked streets; her mind was turbulent, much like the weather outside. She felt a familiar weight in her heart, the gnawing in her stomach that often accompanied her thoughts about advocacy work. Overwhelmed and feeling small, she turned to her friend Light, who was stirring his own sleeve of enthusiasm while glancing out the window as if seeking answers from the grey clouds.

“You ever feel… lost in this endless fight? Like you’re not doing enough?” L finally voiced her thoughts, the words spilling out softly, almost as if afraid to be heard.

Light turned, his eyes carrying a weight of understanding. “All the time, honestly. Some days, it feels like we’re shouting into an abyss. And when I look at everyone else, it’s hard not to feel… small, like our effort isn’t making a dent. Why are we even doing this?” His voice cracked slightly, revealing the layers of doubt buried beneath his surface.

Just then, Emily slid into the booth next to L with a gentle smile, her dark curls framing her face, glistening as if they, too, had braved the rain. “What’s this talk about feeling inadequate?” she inquired, her tone nurturing, the warmth of her character filling the space around them.
